"Looking Back at 20 years

of Kuumba Festivals"

The Twentieth Annual Kuumba Festival

Miss Kuumba - September 24, 2010

Festival - September 25, 2010

The African American Heritage Committee, Inc. (AAHC, Inc.) was organized on January 26, 2002. Their goal is to maintain the tradition of presenting the Kuumba Festival.

This year's theme is "Looking Back at 20 Years of Kuumba Festivals". Once again we invite you to celebrate with us at beautiful Market Park. A former farmer's market, lined with luscious pecan trees and grass that underline your feet, provides a safe and shady arena for our festival. The trees provide our vendors and guests with a "natural umbrella" in case of a rain shower.

The inspiration for the festival arose out of a need to preserve a culture that is unique. Many young people are not aware of their heritage. Like all ethnic groups, we are proud of our history and we want to "pass it on." Not only that, but we also want other groups to learn about our heritage.

The Kuumba Festival is the only festival in this area that provides educational and recreational activities in relationship to the African culture. Please join us!
